Whereas the .338 is more like a big push. Mind you, my 338 is a sporter while my 300 is in a Sendero, so.. they are different rifles. But then, the Sendero is MUCH heavier rifle and the recoil is still noticeably faster and harsher. The CENTER will hold. Even so, the difference between the 6.5 Creedmoor and .300 Win Mag is still pretty small in this regard. The Hornady ELD-X loads track each other almost exactly and the .300 Win Mag has a tiny advantage in each case. The .300 Win Mag Deer Season XP load drifts almost 3″ more than the 6.5 Creedmoor at 500 yards.Furthermore, the muzzle energy of a .308 Winchester round averages out to 2620 ft-lb, while a .338 Winchester Magnum round averages out to about 3920 ft-lb.
