I like Automatic Bonus Progression, I used it in my last campaign (and in Pathfinder 1e). Basically I think fundamental runes are boring loot, and I like everyone to get runes (especially striking) at the same time so that no single character outshines the rest of the group. ABP solves those problems. If I was king of Paizo, I would definitely remove striking and armor runes, and leave that to automatic progression. But I think potency runes slotting in other runes works just fine. They're a fun idea to a narrative of like "I have my father's shortsword, it's been in my family for 5 generations."
